Modified Hubs for Realistic Worlds

For the sake of realism airport hubbing should be limited to 5-7 cities while 'focus cities' those you're maxing out on gates for a non-hub should be limited to the ownership of 4 gates.
Is there anything planned to prevent this over expansion of airlines in one of the most unrealistic manners in the game?

And some of us enjoy realism. Thus we play realistic worlds. Those who want to play unrealistically with 30+ (I wish this number was an exaggeration) hubs can simply play an open world.I actually dont know what position I taking on it. On one hand I hate having to operate 10+ hubs to stay competitive, however on the other hand forcing airlines to be a certain size kinda limits the ways that people can play the game, the bottom line is, its a game made for fun and enjoyment

Perhaps it would be helpful to allow operating something like 8 or 10 gates without having to open a hub...and then limiting hubs to 10 or so. Of course, that's unrealistic in and of itself, the true "problem" is it's too easy to make money and too easy to acquire gates.

Also, people in real life transfer in a focus city, wheras in AE this is not the case - hubs are the only way to do that.
So this is why i am against this - if you want realism, run your airline realistically and ignore the unrealistic ones

When was the last time you looked at AA's hub list? The hubs are New York, Los Angeles, Dallas/Fort Worth, Chicago O’Hare, and Miami. American Eagle also has one in San Juan and La Guardia, but it's not uncommon for the minor airlines to pick up under served markets to increase their funds apart from their parent company. With the mergers America, airlines are operating 8 or so hubs nowadays, with a number of "focus cities"

So, AA has 5 which is still within my 5-7 realistic number. Even including San Juan and La Guardia thats 7... within my number. Over 7 is unrealistic. CO/UA will have 10 combined airlines, but there is massive speculations that some of those are being dropped.
I think you should buy hub slots. Airports should be limited.

OMG UN1 IS BACK!!!It's unrealistic to have non-real world regulation. Yuxi said he might greatly increase hub costs to make this unprofitable to do though.

I like the idea, as long as it doesn't kill small airlines. It's unrealistic to have non-real world regulation. Yuxi said he might greatly increase hub costs to make this unprofitable to do though.
Yay! A profile comment may be more on topic though.OMG UN1 IS BACK!!!

how about we stop picking on large airlines making it impossible for them to operate virtually putting a cap on how big an airline could be. and instead make the game harder for everyone so then if you get to the top, well then you earned it

Some of us, a large number, WANT to play realistic. If you don't, simply play in an open world. I want the choices I make for my airline to actually matter, not just run in easy mode the whole time. Quit whining about realistic features that SHOULD be implemented (and that the devs want as well) and play open worlds. The game does not even represent real world big airlines. Money is too easy to get. I want a challenge... Only way I can do that is hub airports under 1 million pax...how about we stop picking on large airlines making it impossible for them to operate virtually putting a cap on how big an airline could be. and instead make the game harder for everyone so then if you get to the top, well then you earned it

There is a reason why I play in a realistic world, and I am not saying we shouldnt make the game harder, I am saying we should stop making it impossible for large airlines to operate and instead make it hard for every airline to grow in the first place

That doesn't include their major operations in Tokyo and to a lesser degree Amsterdam.
They have nearly 100 departures a day from the likes of Boston, Los Angeles, etc...
In this game, if you want more than 40 someodd daily, you've got to set up a hub.
"8 or so" or 7 or whatever...I'm not disagreeing there's a lot of airlines running operations that wouldn't sustainable in the real world, but I agree with sviridot. There are more realistic ways of limiting growth without a hard cap on "hubs" (fwiw, "hubs" as most think about them as, are not always necessarily discernible entities in the real world from a "focus city" or what have you.")
Make it harder to grow, make terminal expansion helluva lot more expensive. They can cost somewhere in the billions in the real world.
