Community Status Updates

I keep thinking about my trip last weekend to Albuquerque to ride the New Mexico Rail Runner. It's a commuter rail service, but the trains were just as comfortable as any regional inter-city train in Germany and offered free wifi and power outlets. I wonder if state-supported regional rail like this is the future. Maybe a Wichita - Salina - Manhattan - Topeka - Lawrence - Kansas City regional route would be successful?
