6. Texas Air Lines Boeing 747SP "1976-1991"

After discerning the expenses of beginning a Boeing 747 fleet, 6 747SPs would come in 1976 and 1977 to supplement the 747-100 fleet on routes to Hawaii and compliment the DC-10s. With longer range, these aircraft would inaugurate the first non-stop flights to Hawaii, operating flights from Dallas and Houston 2 of the 4 days a week the routes were flown. the 747SP remained in operation until 1984, when the entire 747 fleet was phased out in favor of increased frequencies of smaller aircraft, and additional DC-10-30s for long range service.

N774TX is named for the City of San Antonio.
