B737: 800 vs 900 |

Hi, I have a general question regarding the Boeing 737 in-game.

 

The differences between them seem to be very small and nothing makes the one stand out from the other despite 737-900 being newer. 

Is there something I have missed and not noticed or are there any major difference between them? Which aircraft is the best and most profitable to use in-game between them two?

There really is no difference between the -800 and the -900. The -800 is better though.

I can't see any reason why anyone would ever pick the 737-900 over the -800. Just look at the stats. The 800 comes out earlier and has better everything. I don't even know why you would consider ordering the 737-900 in the first place.

Correct, but a 737-900 with 189 seats has much more legroom than a 737-800.

Think of it like the A350-900 and A350-1000. Both have an exit cap of 440 but the -1000 can carry more passengers with the same amount of legroom as the -900 would provide. Whilst this is useful in real life it is not accounted for in AE’s legroom calculations.

I already have a fleet of 737-800s and was just wondering if I had missed something out with the 737-900. I actually have never considered to get the 900 (as I already have the 800s), but was just curious if there was any slight difference and advantage with the 900 that  I did not know about. I thought it would be more fuel efficient (less fuel = more revenue) before I saw the stats as it was newer and more modern.   

 

Stat wise they are quite identical though I clearly see that the 737-800 is slightly better compared to the 900 as it has better range, more efficient fuel flow, less required runway distance and cheaper lease/buy price.

The 737-800 is a better choice. the 737-900 has the same capacity but is physically longer. Its to allow airlines to max out capacity (Especially in a two class config) without sacrificing leg room. The 737-900ER has a bigger capacity because they added an extra emergency exit.

It appears that the 737-900 was certified to carry the same amount of passengers as the 737-900. I recommend just waiting until the -900ER comes out or go airbus.
