#98814 New Aircraft Deliveries and Backlogs

Posted by captaink on 13 January 2012 - 01:33 PM in Suggestions and Feature Requests

I mentioned it in another thread, but what about dividing up leases into two categories: Capital leases and operating leases. Operating leases are effectively what having leasing companies would achieve (i.e. one company leasing planes to another company for given time periods, with the plane returning to the lessor at the end of the term). Capital leases would be a "lease to own" system where after a certain amount is paid for the aircraft, it is yours. Capital leases would only be offered by the manufacturer, and could be restricted to smaller airlines only. Also, there should be a stiffer penalty for buying out a lease, as I've got a feeling this is how most big airlines are abusing the system.

This would allow large airlines to still lease planes, without the system leading to huge backlogs.

#98811 Internal aircraft designations?

Is there any way we could "tag" aircraft flying out of a certain hub? For example, I have a fleet of mostly 757s, MD-88s and CR7s that are spit between my two hubs. Problem is, when I get new planes in and start shuffling routes, I start to lose track of which ones are at which airport. I know others use non-hub scheduling methods, but I think a 3-7 character field could accommodate some kind of internal hint as to what routes the aircraft flies.

Failing that, could we add a field where we can designate "tail numbers" different from the ID? For instance, I could assign all of my 757's in business-heavy configurations flying out of JFK 10xx numbers, all my 757's in business-heavy configurations flying out of LAX 12xx numbers, all economy 757s out of DCA 20xx numbers etc...

#98809 Aircraft Depreciation should be considered as an expense for tax purposes

Only a matter of time, International accounting standards were followed ;)

After giving up AE to focus on school (specifically accounting), it's only reasonable for me to expect the game follow realistic standards. The only question is whether to follow GAAP or IFRS :P

For one, the first six months of an aircraft lease should be expensed over those six months, even though the cash is paid upfront. You can pretty easily manipulate net income depending on the timing of leases. Also, I'd like to see callable bonds and the option for capital leases in addition to operating leases.
