Yeah. I didn't have any altitude restrictions and was descending on VNAV. The altitude selection didn't matter that much.

You should NEVER have 0 selected. Regardless of what method of vertical guidance is active, only your cleared level should be selected on the MCP.

Well thanks for telling me about that. I wasn't flying with ATC and I'm definitely not a professional; I usually don't bother with things that have little effect on my flight.

But if you have to go around, you will need to climb to a specific altitude specified on the chart. Having the altitude preselected to the altitude you need to climb to helps out.

I generally set the G/A altitude when I get established on the ILS.
