DC-8 range

Posted by mxax-ai on 04 September 2013 - 06:00 AM

According to http://www.boeing.co...c-8/index.page? , the DC-8-63 should have at least 4500 mi range with some pax. Following the logic of the text, the Dc-8-62 should have even more range.
That only makes sense when comparing it to the 707, which it was indended to compete with and has a much bigger range.

But then how did airlines commonly fly routes over 4500, even 5000 miles length with DC-8-62, -63 & -53? I've seen reports of airlines flying routes like AMS-YVR, HEL-YVR or HNL-BWI. And I recall the DC-8 being the longest range aircraft before the 747.

Now if I can have a source to back your theories up, then I can act upon this

How about this?

Or
"Here's some numbers that I have from Francillon's excellant book on Douglas.
DC-8-72...7220mi/11620km with max passenger loads.
DC-8-62...6000mi/9640km with max passenger loads.
Percentage increase of 20.3 percent.
Note that only 7 DC-8-62 were converted into -72s.
Regards.

Hmm, I cannot just take word to mouth and the Boeing charts from a quick glance seem fine
