Either a 767-300ER or a 777-200ER.

I replace them with 772ER if the demand allows it, and A340-200/500 if the demand is lower

I'm using A340-300s. Not a great choice though, taking 55 fewer PAX.

A340s are gas guzzlers. Use a 777-300 or a 777-200 variant

Well, my profits have doubled. I don't recommend them though. 55 less PAX.

I would suggest getting the 747-400 on the most fuel-efficient engine. You get an increase in capacity (means you can use less flights and more flights to other places) that can be useful. Yes it might be expensive, and I guess it can be a little heavy on the gas, but it is a pretty good aircraft for high capacity routes. For lower capacity routes, I would suggest, as everyone has said, a Boeing 767-300ER or 777-200ER, LR, or -300ER. It all depends on the route that you are flying. All planes have a range in which they excel or have very few competitors in.

However, you definitely can't beat the 747SP's cruise speed, unfortunately. It's special performance for a reason, I guess. If you choose to opt out of buying a 747-400, your next-best bet would probably be the 777-200ER.
