I believe it was due to competition or a lack of activity but it has meant we have seen a huge increase in viable routes but the main threat for Cathay Pacific now comes from the Chinese market where there are now 8 carriers hat are trying to get into the Hong Kong Market.

Another wave of rapid expansion?

We are currently in a midst of a huge number of deliveries and the recent collapse of British Airways Hong Kong means we are filling gaps and resuming routes lost when the airline went under. We are also in the strong position of having a new terminal expansion on the horizon to cope with the routes we will expand and open in the coming months and years.

May 2019:

We are sad to say goodbye to the work horse of our fleet for 19 years the 747-400, at one time we had a fleet of 50 of these marvellous aircraft but due to rising cots and ageing of the fleet we must bid fare well to them. They will be withdrawn tomorrow but our last 747 will be given to the government of Hong Kong for trips around the world, the aircraft will be refitted to fit their needs and is a present from us to the people of Hong Kong. But until the aircraft is handed over we will allowing the people of Hong Kong the chance of flights around our beautiful City and a chance to win a trip around the World with Cathay Pacific and the AAA and you get to choose your destinations.

Cathay Pacific flys into 3 London Airports due to the high demand for flights to Hong Kong from the United Kingdom, Heathrow is our prized route and allows huge connections to other global destinations, London Gatwick allows passengers a faster connection to the South of England and provide links with Legacy Airlines and Stansted provide Cathay passengers with an alternative airport for connections to low cost carriers. The reasoning behind the flight to LaGuardia is that this flight is a premium flight operated as part of an agreement with large institution in Manhattan who see LaGuardia as a quicker choice for flights, we offer special rates on this route and provide one of our highest quality flights on this route. We also pay higher charges for flying this route and we pay directly for an cost or disruption caused by this route to the local area, also thanks to United States border preclearance at the airport passengers coming into LGA do not need to go through Passport control if they wish to travel domestically within the US once they have landed.
