Are they always good? Or can a mix be more economical, as certain planes do certain things? For example would it be economical to have a SAAB, ATR, Do328, all in one fleet? Would it be good to have 747/777/767/A340/A330/A380 all in one fleet?

As Sargas said, at the moment, there is no advantage to fleet commonality, but it will eventually be implemented into the game and thus, affect ur aircraft buying decisions.

I guess it just comes down to what aircraft does the better job and is more economically to operate in ur fleet.

Actually there is a benefit to common fleet types. You'll get up to a 25% reduction in operating costs depending on how many of a certain type of aircraft you operate. Just recently I included fleet commonality between different fleet types, such as the 737-600, 737-700, -800, and -900.

Would a mainly Boeing long-haul fleet bode well with a few A340-600/-500, just for fun.

That's VERY interesting! I have 6 of these hehe
btw is there a place where you post these kind of news as you modify the game? It would be nice to know how the game is evolving

Well another advantage to fleet commonality...you get discounts for large orders of aircraft, so ultimately you get a break if you buy 5 Boeing 737-800s as opposed to 1 Airbus 319, 320, 1 CRJ-200, and 2 CRJ-900s.

You do already. If you closely look you do recieve discounts based on number of A/C ordered.

Ah great =) Is there any chance that we could get a list of aircraft that are on the same commonality?

I believe there is engine commonality as well, although I'm not quite sure if I added it. As far as finding aircraft with fleet commonality...its up to you to do that research ;) Can't give away everything, now :P

wouldn't it mainly pertain to pilot training costs?

Well here is my list:

736/7/8/9
757/767
A300/A310
A318/319/320/321
A330/A340
ERJ135/140/145
ERJ170/175/190/195
CRJ 200/700/900
These all share common pilots which greatly reduce costs in real life.

To a degree, as there are still some seperate parts but on these families pilots are interchangable for those families

WHAT! HOW CAN YOU NOT BE SURE IF YOU ADDED IT! Sorry, Miller, it's just that you designed the game and it's shocking that those words are coming out of your mouth.
