Started the new round few minutes ago. The time will be stopped till friday (the exact time when the clock will be started again will be announced on thursday). New features, new rules, bugs fixed:

  • Airline used market reworked: You will sell a used aircraft now to the bank for its current value, the bank will get a discount of 5 % (comission fee); when buying you have to pay the current value also plus a fee of 5 %
  • Runway restrictions: They are now activated, so you can not fly with a big jet to an airport with a very short runway
  • Gate restrictions: You can lease 5 gates at max. from an airport (if you want to have more gates at this airport you must build a terminal)
  • Short distance restrictions: For short distance flights (<= 200 miles) there are some restrictions activated
  • Optimized some database query for better performance

Problems:

  • Some airports are making loss or less profits, this is due to wrong customer numbers, this will be corrected while the game is running, so the profits will increase step-by-step for different locations.

Wow. Interesting concept that I'm sure players will need to warm up to. It is better then taking your chances on the old market though.

I like this one the best. No more 747 or A380's into RNO, SJC, MDW, and all the smaller airports where they just don't belong. This makes for a much more realistic sim.:-Clap

The old used market was quite easy if you know how it worked. Most Q400's you could buy for -170m , so you bought a Q400 plus you would get 150M cash from the sale. The main reason why some people did well on the used market ;-)

A380's there again were expensive , I paid up to 1.6 billion for some of them. Anyway, glad that has changed as it has made it a more level playing field. I would like to see how some people do now ;-)

It will indeed be interesting on the used market. Especially that you can not make any bids anymore on forehand. This means you have to watch very frequently if there are any offers. About the pricing i am not very sure if it will work in the right way. Some people already bought a used one while the round did not start yet. And the min. price for a beech still would be around 5 milj. + 5 %. But we will see how it work during the game.

Well, it'll keep them out of MDW but RNO and SJC have plenty long runways for the A380 and I think most if not all configurations of the 747. The planes that are going to have issues are mostly some of the 777 types. Those 4 engine planes don't need nearly as much runway as the size of the aircraft would lead you to believe.

Really! Wonder how many of those were sold by "new airlines" just created in the last day or two?

well you won't totally stop that sort of thing happening but at least the 50% rule has gone. anyway, if people want to waste their money on another beech then let them I myself would rather have a few Q400's and plonk them on HND - KIX later on ;-)

Anyone know when the clock officially starts? I hate the anticipation of setting up routes and waiting to see the profits start rolling in

Ummm not to be a noob or anything, but why are all the big cities gone from the gate list? I was getting ready to set myself up for next month, and low and behold the only gates listed were little dinky airports that have never made anyone money in the past.. did i miss something again?

Sorry about that - I think it's something in the query I changed while implementing gate/slot information on the gate list. I rolled it back to the old version for now while I tweak it some more.

Yes, the old market from Sim 1 works fine. I meant the old bidding system.

I really, really dislike the 5 gate max rule. It makes it impossible to build up a hub, at least early on. I like to do a single hub or a very few large hubs and build them up gradually. Unfortunatly, now I will have to do a series of mini hubs in order to gain enough money to buy an expensive terminal and then later switch all of those aircraft from a bunch of mini 5 gate hubs to a big hub. This really is not realistic and not practical and takes some of the fun out of the game. Also, it isn't sucessfull; look at ORD, already almost to zero gates.

I have not tried the used aircraft market yet, but from what I have seen it looks like a positive step forward. I also like that when leasing gates it tells you how many you have at that particular airport already. We'll see how the runway thing goes; seems like something just to get in the way of gameplay, but it is more real world.

I want to be able to play the game for fun and world domination hehe) in my spare time and not have to switch planes, look at runway data, and do time consuming research, etc.

Piedmont Airlines....eventually to be Newark's hometown airline in the future, but who knows when...

In contrast to OSUflight1's post above, I like the gate system. Everyone has the same starting block and despite ORD being full, other airports that are usually full are still open. Kudos Tobias and Yuxi!
