Has anyone here exactly scrapped an aircraft? Was it ever more beneficial than selling?

Yeah, one of my really big airlines back in the day ran Ilyushin Il-62Ms and ran them into the ground. By the time I decided to replace them they had depreciated so far that I would get more cash by scrapping them than selling. About 30 Il-62s went under the chopper that day.
Made $20K from each.

Yes, I scrapped a 41-year old B737-300. I did make more than selling it, but not by much.

The benefit of scrapping is no other airline will get the plane. Good because a hardcore spamline might buy it if you sell.
But no, I don't think I have ever done it.

I've done it once when I couldn't sell a plane (ID number 1) because of a bug in the game

It is a good practise to scrap your planes especially when you are not in an immediate need of cash. That way you prevent your competitors and spamlines to get their hands to your old fleet and increase their capacities. You also help virtual AE pax not to fly on 55 years old 737s.
Personally I use this strategy quite often.

I scrap my aircraft once they get around 30 years old or older, since there pretty much worthless on the market in my opinion.

A spamline can be described as "A god with infinite money" so I don't think giving him 20 737s is gonna help the cause when he has 1.2k planes.
