What is the MD-82 better at than the MD-81?

In the real world, the MD-82 has more powerful engines and a higher MTOW. They were intended for use at hot and high airports.

Not really in this game. I'd personally spring for the MD-83. Great range, lots of speed, and a big cabin. A huge winner for my airlines.

Yet the MD-80/90 series tends to be less fuel efficient than comparable Airbus and Boeing models. I used to fly these planes during my early years in AE but stopped after I found out that a competing Boeing 737 would use less fuel despite having a smaller cabin.

I never buy MD-81s most the time, as I perfer the MD-82, people buy the MD-81 on AE for the tiny extra bit of range but I find it pointless
