Hi all
I have a 737-800 and a 737-400 flying on the same route with the same configuration, and 737-800 makes less money than 737-400. The 737-800 has winglets.

Hi all
I have a 737-800 and a 737-400 flying on the same route with the same configuration, and 737-800 makes less money than 737-400. The 737-800 has winglets.
Why
738 burns more fuel than 734. As far as I know, winglets gives you 'only' 5% better efficiency.
Also, it is possible that you hit that cyclical demand drop when switching aircraft, which contributed to the effect.
CASM wise, a 738 burns less fuel than 734 (if both have "right" engine).
It might be demand drop - it also might be that 738 has less-than-ideal engine.
The 737-800 has higher maintenance cost (due to base cost). It encounters higher base cost of minimum $500,000 plus a cost of $30,000 extra for each aircraft compared to the 737-400. For similar seating class, you might want to consider A320-200 which has 189 seats similar to the 737-800. Good luck
