Limited places to fly from some airports

I know these are just two airports, but for example in the US, you can hardly fly to any destinations west of the Mississippi from LGA and DCA due to political restrictions. Why is this if there are nonstop flights in real life from these airports to airports in the west? Can someone please explain.

Because some airlines got approved slots for out of restriction flights.
