For me, I prefer the Tristar substantially over the DC-10. The Tristar is much more fuel efficient, especially on the intercontinental versions (DC-10-30 and L-1011-250). Also, the Tristar looks a lot better than the DC-10, at least for me. The Lockheed Engineers did a great job making the third engine look flush and sleek with the rest of the aircraft. The Douglas Engineers just look like they got the fuselage, then stuck a third engine on top of that and then a tail on top of that. What do you guys prefer?

You can tell which one I voted for by my username.
Tristar is visually stunning in real life and in AE it is a huge profit maker for its time period.
I will never forget seeing my first ever Tristar as my flight flew down the approach to Lyon Saint Exupery, they have an old Air Transat one sitting there in bad condition. I just love this plane, more then any other plane.

Tristar. It is a proven money maker. The DC 10 took another modification to the MD11 to make it worthwhile extension. . So it outlasted the Tristar . Saying that the Tristar got killed , primarily because of a Rolls Royce strike. Laker Airlines went under partially because he had DC10s. DC10s went under because of a big crash. And both ended up being fuel hogs.

Tristar because their engines don't just fall off.
No engine should ever fall of if maintenance is done properly. Voted for the Tristar though. It was a better aircraft.

No DC-10 incident other than American 96 was directly caused by a design flaw. All the others seemed to have some ****up by the airline earlier that wasn't always helped by the plane's layout. The L-1011 couldn't tell you you were going to crash into a swamp, anyway...

Turkish 981, the design flaw was known. And how many pilots do you think are needed to monitor the altitude?

The employee they used shut the door in the incorrect way and didn't read the warning labels

guys just admit dc-10 is better more have sold and they look nicer than l1011
DC-10 sold more because
1. Douglas has had a lot more experience in the commercial aircraft industry
2. Douglas had better marketing
3. The Tristar was delayed because of problems at Rolls-Royce
None of the above reasons warrant the DC-10 being the superior aircraft. In my opinion, the Tristar is better.
Also the tail of the DC-10 is just ugly. Looks like some kid glued an engine on top of the fuselage and then a tail on top of the engine.
