I have 5 leased Douglas DC-9-50s in my fleet and I'm using them just fine.

 

But I also have a leased McDonnell Douglas MD-81 that shows up on the Maintenance list but it is not on the list of available planes when I try to assign it to a route. Any thoughts on why I can't use the MD-81?

Maybe the runways are too short. Or the flight distance is way too far.   Or the airport management don't like you......

1. Insufficient hours

 

When your plane has not enough available hours for the route. This error is too unreal to be made.

 

2. Not enough range

 

The MD-81 does not have the ability to fly on a route which is longer than its maximum range. Check your route length and the aircraft's range.

 

3. One of the airports on your route does not have a runway which's length meet the aircraft's minimum runway length.

 

These are the possible errors I can think of. There might be even more.

The MD-81 has 0 hours on scheduled, and requires almost 2000 ft less runway and has almost 500 miles greater range than the DC-9-50. I try to assign it from ATL to DEN (which the DC-9-50 is already flying) and It doesn't show up in the list to assign when I try to Add flights.

I finally got it to assign by changing it with existing flights, now it shows up on the list. Thanks.

You may have had the add flights page filtered to show DC-9-50's only.
