Lets pretend that this is actually possible and AE could handle this, do you want to introuce airports in the year they are actually built?

 

For example, in 1998 Hong Kong closed its main airport at the time (Kai Tak) to make way for the new and current airport Hong Kong International Airport or Chek Lap Kok.

There are many examples of this, Bangkok, Don Mueang (DMK) and the new Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK). Also Doha is an example Doha International Airport (DOH) and new Hamad International Airport (DOH).

 

This would mean that if the airport was completly closed, like Kai Tak and Doha, that the routes flown would have to be moved to the new airport. Also we would need to have a "Change Airport Origin" Button for the flights for the airports that didnt close but got down sized because of a new airport.

 

Lets just assume that this could be possible.

Although I think this is nice, this would take a lot of effort to do so. Nonetheless, you would have to research all the airports in the world, and also make this change to all of the AE servers. So, no.

Maybe transfer if it's your hub, otherwise not?

They should transfer to the new airport regardless, unless it's in an entirely different city.

Hmm, it would be hell of a problem if you don't open a hub on major airport in Kai Tak, Doha, Jakarta (Halim to Soekarno) or Beijing and Shanghai Airport.

Well, you need planning to move all your operations from 1 airport to another. While in real life they got months of preparation to move, I'm not sure how it would work in the system, would they just closed down the old airport and open the new one at the same day or are they gonna give few months where both airports would operate at the same time to allow players to move all the flights to the new airport and adjust to the new requirements (Longer runway, higher fees, higher or lower demand).

 

To be honest, you don't sound like people who understand the complexity in both real life and the game. Maybe learn some more?

Well, i think if airport opening/closure is simulated, then before old airport is closed, airlines should be notified to prepare for moving their flights to new airport. 

 

As example, my current flights both domestic or international now on Kemayoran Airport(1930-1985). But in 1970's, system notify us for moving all international flights to Halim PK Airport(and demand on Halim PK Airport is increased, flights recalculated) until 1986 before moved to Soetta(Soekarno-Hatta) Airport with all domestic flights too. When Soetta is opened, all remaining domestic flights on Kemayoran(and international flights on Halim) automatically moved to Soetta and Kemayoran Airport is closed(and recalculate flights again). Halim is still available for flights if you want to remain your flights there, BUT with demand decreased.

The coding for this would be similar to that for aircraft production dates. I can't see why it can't be done. If Yuxi coded aircraft production dates, he might be able to do this.
