apparently there could be women who are sex offenders as well as single men. But come on, this is just plain STUPID by the airlines

Did you read the article? This isn't a problem for parents travelling with children, its only for unaccompanied minors.

i think he means that a parent could be travelling with his own kids but not be allowed to sit next to an unaccompanied child (someone else's child)..
