I am currently in (Rδ) Realistic World - No Airline Per Player Limit (1990-2030), with a German-based airline. It was my understanding that from the yr 2000, routes could be initiated from any EU country. This is based on this from the game info:

"Airlines cannot operate routes in which the departure and arrival airport is outside their home country; this restriction is lifted for those that operate in an European Union nation after the round has reach the year 2000."

So I bought billions worth of long range aircraft, expecting to be able, from 2000, to fly from LHR, CDG, AMS, etc, to the USA, Asia, & anywhere in the world (ie, "both departure & arrival airport  is outside the home country"), because my airline operates "in an EU nation". In other words, because my airline is in a EU nation, I could fly from any other EU nation to [any] destinations "outside my home country".

It turns out that this restriction-lifting only in fact applies to departure & arrival airports that are both WITHIN the EU. Which means the most you get to do is add a whole bunch of A320's or smaller aircraft to already over-saturated routes of no more than 500 or so miles. Big whoop.

I've played a few gameworlds, & consider myself reasonably experienced, but this is my first time as a European airline in a restricted gameworld, & I'm really disappointed. I only joined this gameworld for the purpose of my obviously incorrect perception of the EU rule. Is it just me, or is this gameworld information ambiguous? Am I the first person to ever make this mistake?

Call me stupid if you like but I think this rule should be written better.

EU is not USA, it's a union of independent countries not one country.

I don't find nothing wrong with the current system

The current EU openskies only apply for routes within the EU, eg a French airline can operate between Estonia and Sweden if they wish to do so. There are no such EU agreements that allow an airline from France to operate Long Haul flights to Asia from any of the other EU members. There is however an openskies treaty between the EU and the US, however this has not been implemented in game.

Plus, in the real world, Some airlines (e.g. Norwegian, Wizzair, EasyJet etc.) operate flight from another EU country to a country outside the EU

Like: MXP/FCO/HAM/SXF-TLV for EasyJet, Morroco Flights by Ryanair, etc

However these are not in the game

Matt Kazachinsky, CEO of Matanya Airlines and some other airlines.

they wouldn't be implemented, because those routes are agreements between easyjet and the local goverment. since there are no goverments in AE, thus...
