Does it make sense to open a hub at your HQ?

If you plan on running a lot of routes through your HQ, then yes. HQ just denotes where you founded your airline, it does not grant connecting passengers.

Opening a hub brings connecting pax. Also, if you would look at your route map when you've opened the hub, you would see a big green tac that stands out from all other destinations, right in the place of your HQ. That is in my opinion, more asthetically pleasing than just a destination arrow on the HQ.

However it hides any drop in full-fare PAX due to the connecting PAX filling the seats...i.e. you will still see 100% LF even though you are losing to your competition.
