What is the beneift of opening a hub?

What is the beneift of opening a hub? I did a search and could not find anything.

It depends if your in an alliance and a member flies to that airport you be connecting passengers which is that blue bar that pops up in the route page it just basically fills the plane. However if you aren't in an alliance it does nothing as far as I know

From the FAQs:

 

What are the benefits of a hub?
Hubs provide you with connecting passengers (see above) on routes departing/arriving at that hub. However, a hub also doubles your gate rental fees at that airport (due to extra staffing costs).

Hubs are away of showing everyone how rich you are. I had 29 of them on my last big airline.
