With a rich history and vibrant culture across the continent, South America has been a major market since the days of pioneering sailing ships laden with explorers bound for the New World. Now, after years of oppressive political instability, Latin America has begun a sharp climb onto the world stage as a major economic centre. With a foothold in South America's leading market with Brazilian carrier Air South America, Excel Alliance has been looking to fortify its foothold on the continent. Argentine flag carrier Aerolineas Argentinas was the perfect airline to fill this need, operating to a host of destinations not served by any current Excel Alliance members. 

 

After several years of revival after a troubled period of private ownership, Aerolineas is now poised to expand across Argentina and the rest of South America, with it strengthening Excel's foothold on the continent. Codesharing agreements with Air South America and North American Airlines have already been forged, with additional agreements to follow shortly. As of now, several Excel member airlines are in dialouge with the Argentine government about opening flights to Buenos Aires to further bolster Aerolineas Argentinas's connecting traffic.
