Is there any way to stop airlines adding F and C class seats to their configurations if they 'max out' their aircraft seating?

Let me set the scene; back in the old R4, I was operating a route from the US mainland to Hawaii. An airline was flying with a maximum configuration, featuring Y, C and F.
I calculated the F class pitch on this particular competitor's aircraft to be 33", less than I was offering in my Y class. The only difference being his F class was three times the price of my Y!

In reality you wouldn't find any F class on a 7 hour flight with only 33" of legroom. Shouldn't there be a capacity threshold that limits you adding F & C class on aircraft that have been crammed with seats?

I thought the whole idea of F & C class was that you offered significantly more legroom than in economy, if not - why the high prices?

On top of making AE more simulative of the real world, it would also slow the expansion of airlines - something that I thought was being promoted?

Currently the legroom in different classes are not independent, so the legroom rating applies to the entire aircraft. In AE 4 the seat configuration and legroom system will be much more sophisticated, so that will take care of these concerns. :P

OUTSTANDING!!!! That would really be a kick in the teeth to some of these mega-carriers that try and gobble up everything!! XD

There should also be a penalty for those with too much legroom and space ;)

Any particular reason why? Surely the loss of revenue is a sufficient penalty?

Disagree.
Hell, I'd be happy if F/C took up only one Y seat however it used much more space.
Seeing as that is actually more legally realistic... :whistling:

Makes perfect sense.
AE uses max certified seats.
Therefore, we should be able to fit 350F into a 767 if we want to, but the problem should be that no-one on earth would fly it.

Ironically, AE use the weirdest figures. 581 on the B747-8I is max 3class, but A380's 853 is only on Y :/

This is something of a silly thread as no one seems to have checked out if the original post has any merit. Take the 747 8i as an example. If you configure all Cattle class then the maximum seats is 605. If all Business class you can only fit in 378 seats and if all First class then only 242.

242 F is still around the 45" mark, so my point still stands :/

If we want to increase legroom, we need to implement significant penalties rather than hard restrictions.

But as a sidenote, it is completely realistic to offer 30" or even 28" legroom in Y and still see high loadfactors, it is in no way unrealistic
*points to real LCCs*

I'm not saying that maxing out Y is unrealistic, simply that maxing out with F and C is. Although it is legally possible, no-body would fly it!

Spirit's 4C/174Y is apparently 4C/173Y in game. So yeah, we're better off without the F/C taking up certified space :/
