If you have a good knowledge of aircraft (or a willingness to develop one) and enjoy reading and learning about aviation, you may be interested in taking part in a new project.
As readers may know, aircraft and airports in game often have errors or gaps in their data, as a result of inherited inaccuracies, typing errors or simply out-dated information.
Currently, staff will correct any errors that they spot and players can report errors through the bug tracker.
This system works fine, but some errors can go unnoticed for a long time, and correct information may not be available.
Over the coming weeks, I intend to co-ordinate a complete review of all aircraft in game (and may be extending this to airports). All elements of the aircraft will be checked and corrected if necessary and I will be forming a new team of "Data Reviewers" that will assist me in this. These users will help to speed up the process, as well as to provide balance by providing extra sets of eyes to double check existing data.
Data Reviewers will be expected to provide verified information from any source that they can find (online or offline). A new forum-based system will be devised to form a receptacle for this information, to allow staff to process it and update the game database. The end goal will be to build up a library of data sources that will help iron out any errors in game, keep conformity, and provide a starting point for the research into any further additions to the game.
Although I may allocate to each individual a specific manufacturer to focus on, there will be no strict or major obligations as to what data each person will have to provide. I would think that the bulk of this task can be accomplished by simply reading material for one's own interest, and noting down relevant data that is stumbled upon.
Full guidance will be provided on exactly what data is required.
If you are interested in taking part in this project and becoming a Data Reviewer, please send me a short private message with a little bit about yourself, why you are interested and what you think you can bring to the project. All are welcome to apply!
Any general queries will be dealt with in this thread.
NOTES:
- Existing staff and data collectors will automatically have access to the Data Reviewer roles.
- The position of "Data Reviewer" is not a staff position. There will be no associated moderation powers, seniority or other preferential treatment over other members.
