The "New Beginnings" Livery was used beginning in 1998 as part of a full airline rebrand to commemorate the handover of British Hong Kong in 1997. The design features the classic waving red pennant design on the tail but also features black heavily to reflect the new modern identity of the airline. Notably, the new livery replaced the old British colonial crest with the new Hong Kong S.A.R. seal next to the cockpit. The livery was used until 2014 and was fully phased out by 2015.
