Alamo Airways DC-9-10 and DC-9-30

Alamo Airways DC-9-10 and DC-9-30

Alamo Airways commenced operations in November 1967 with a flight from Houston to Dallas. It had been founded two years earlier by oil tycoon Kelly Hunt, who founded the airline after taking over a cancelled order of several DC-9 aircraft. By the time it first flew, it was the first US startup to have an all jet fleet.

Alamo's competitive advantage was that it had lower fares when compared to other airlines, and its lower cost structure led to a high amount of profit within its first few years of operation. Several airlines sued to have the airline be shut down or otherwise have its fares raised, however all attempts failed in court.

The DC-9 were the sole fleet type in the airline, with two variants of the -10 and the -30.
