Midwestern “Burgundy Blaze” 717-200 (2014)

Though slated for retirement before the end of the decade, the 717 still features prominently in the Midwestern network. Just under 50 of the type were ordered in 1999, these aircraft were intended to replace Midwestern's at the time, rapidly aging fleet of DC-9-30s and DC-9-10s. Deliveries of the 48 aircraft occurred between 2001 and 2006. The aircraft fly primarily out of the airline's Ohio, Florida, and Wisconsin hubs to destinations across the country, though most of the fleet is concentrated around the eastern half of the United States. With the introduction of the Bombardier CS300/Airbus A220-300 in 2018, the 717s have been gradually sent out for retirement. Full disposal of the type should finish by the end of the 2026 calendar year. In 2019, some aircraft began receiving Midwestern's revised livery. As of 2024, 29 aircraft remain in the fleet. The aircraft pictured above is rotating out of Minneapolis St. Paul International Airport, note the SteliaLink CRJ in the background.
