Mexico City was hosting the Olympics and Mexico's main airline needed a new look. This deign came about to simplify the name and make the brand image more iconic. It introduced new patterning inspired from the Mecxica patterns that used to decorate tapestries and pottery, and of course a new aztec warrior, one that would persist through later designs.
