Douglas DC-3 New England Air Transport (1936-1951)

The year is 1936, and many of America's iconic airlines are more than established in their day-to-day operations. That year, Boston Air Transport secured new Douglas DC-3 aircraft as a means of increasing passenger capacity between the two cities of Boston and New York, as the demand for passenger travel on this route skyrocketed in the early 30's. But the new fleet of Douglas aircraft would not be the only new addition to the company. Boston Air Transport became New England Air Transport in 1936, seeing that its services offered itself far beyond the city limits of just Boston. Now, much of New England was benefiting from this incredible new means of travel, and the excitement and demand for flying here would only grow with the years to follow.

All while this is happening, a partnership is being formed between Theodore Duval, the founder of New England Air Transport, and William Boeing, the founder of the Boeing Aircraft Company. Boeing spoke with Duval on several occasions of his new Model 247 airliner that had proven its success with Alden Air Lines in the Midwest. He insisted that the same success could help New England Air Transport dearly with increased passenger demand, as well as the opportunity of new destinations from Boston. Duval agreed, and placed an order for 12 of the type, and increase operations to the cities of Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Atlantic City, Burlington, and Washington D.C.
