New England Airlines

New England Airlines is an American network carrier based in Boston, Massachusetts. Founded in 1927, it is among some of the oldest continuously operating airlines in the world, boasting a wide variety of both longhaul and shorthaul domestic aircraft families. NEA, as it is commonly referred in the present, was formed out of the need to expedite the movement of airmail between Boston and New York City, along with the majority of smaller New England cities and towns. As the demand for passenger travel surged, so too did the size and scope of New England Airlines' operation, opening secondary centers of operation in New York City as a result of rising travel demand. New York JFK would not become a 'hub' to New England Airlines until 1997, but its location and usefulness to New York City helped solidify it as a key to the overall success in the growth of New England Airlines altogether. Despite its hefty presence in New York, it is very much a Boston-based and Boston-ran company, with its original headquarters in Boston's Back Bay. Today, its global headquarters can be found in the John Hancock Center, in downtown.
