Velocity Airways is a major European Ultra-Low-Cost Carrier which is owned by Velocity Holdings Ltd, a Maltese corporation. Velocity operates across Europe under two Air Operator Certificates.

Velocity Europe (ICAO: VLC, IATA: VC, Callsign “Speed Line”) operates flights throughout the European Union using aircraft registered in Malta with 9H- registrations. The airline was founded in 2000 as low-cost airlines began to thrive following deregulation of the European air market. Initially founded in Stockholm and headquartered at Stockholm-Bromma airport, the carrier transferred its AOC to the Malta in 2015 after a long consultation and decision period. Today, Velocity continues to conduct most official business from its offices on the grounds of Bromma Airport, where its System Operations Control Centre (SOC) is located. The airline offers a route network which serves many holiday destinations as well as point-to-point markets across the continent. Velocity Europe operates several bases across Europe, and has primarily been focused on operations originating in Northern Europe and Scandinavia. Velocity Europe is planning several expansions across Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean region, however plans were put on hold as a result of the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Velocity UK (ICAO: VUK, IATA: V7, Callsign “Sun Jet”) was founded in 2019 as a result of the United Kingdom’s successful referendum to leave the European Union. The airline, which primarily operates from London’s Southend Airport, East Midlands, and Manchester, and offers a variety of both domestic scheduled operations, flights to European capitals and large cities as well as Mediterranean/Island destinations which are frequent destinations of British holidaymakers.

Velocity operates under an ultra-low-cost business model, which prioritizes ancillary revenue while offering similarly priced low fares to its European counterparts. Customers often complain about lackluster service, high and excessive fees, as well as incessant public address announcements in an attempt to sell duty free items as well as buy-on-board food and drinks. The airline, which has recently seen new leadership take control, has publicly announced plans to attempt to create a friendlier environment onboard and a more customer-centric set of policies and fees, however it has been met with many challenges.
