YZ BAe 146

YZ BAe 146

After the split of CALA, Yangtze Airlines took over orders for the less prestigious aircraft the former state-owned monopoly placed, including orders for 5 BAe 146-300 jets which CALA had intended to use on its high altitude routes. These jets were delivered between 1992 and 1994. After Air Yunnan merged with Yangtze, Yangtze also took over their fleet of 5 BAe 146-300 jets. The BAe was not a particularly comfortable aircraft for passengers, and they had a quite notorious reputation in China. By 2004, Yangtze Airlines decided to retire their entire fleet of BAe jets in favor of A320 and 737NG jets. Some BAes were sold to Iran or back to BAe after their retirement, but most were actually preserved at various museums, universities and theme restaurants around China.
