The Airbus A320 family forms the backbone of NOR's fleet, encompassing nearly every variant except the A318 and A319neo. NOR operates the A319, A320, A320neo, A321, A321neo, and A321LR, carefully tailored to specific route demands. The A319, with its smaller capacity and extended range, is ideal for flights from secondary Scandinavian airports. NOR's fleet of 5 A319s, all registered in Denmark, plays a crucial role in these operations.
For European routes, NOR relies on the A320 and A320neo, which together constitute the majority of the airline’s fleet, with 15 A320s and 30 A320neos in service. To optimize costs on certain European routes, NOR established the Irish subsidiary NORjet in 2017. NORjet operates 25 A320neos, crewed and based outside Scandinavia, leveraging lower operating expenses. NORjet aircraft are distinguished by the absence of a flag on their sharklets and the NORjet logo on the aft fuselage. Despite objections from Swedish labor unions and passenger complaints about service quality, NORjet continues to operate under the IATA code N9, ICAO code NJT, and callsign BLUE TIN - a nod to Danish butter cookies and the airline’s Scandinavian roots.
NOR also uses the A321 for higher-capacity European routes, although only 2 remain from the original fleet of 5. The A321XLR, a newer addition with 8 in service and 2 more on order, expands NOR’s transatlantic capabilities. Registered in Sweden, these aircraft operate lower-capacity long-haul routes to North America, such as Oslo-New York, Copenhagen-Boston, and Stockholm-Toronto, with plans for new routes like Stockholm-Boston and Gothenburg-Boston. NOR’s strategic A320 fleet utilization ensures flexibility and efficiency, supporting its mission to connect Scandinavia with the world.
