(1.0) Lockheed L1011

(1.0) Lockheed L1011

The Lockheed L1011-500 first flew in 1978, and was delivered to Dragon Line, the variant's launch customer, in December of the same year. Promotional literature spewed by both Dragon Line and Lockheed championed the Tristar as the safest airliner in service in order to gain an edge over its competitors in Asia. At its peak, Dragon Line's L1011 fleet, consisting of -500s and -100s, ballooned to over 20, making the Hong Kong carrier the largest non-American operator of the type.

The airline heralded the Lockheed L1011 as its main replacement to the Convair jets it already operated at the time, featuring greatly improved operational reliability and performance as well as a significantly smoother ride for passengers. Operating to nearly all of Dragon Line's destinations across Asia, the jet saw heavy service from India and the Maldives to Japan and Indonesia.

The last example, VR-HYD, operated until December of 1997, amassing 18,999 cycles, and its tail section currently sits preserved at Dragon City Plaza in Chek Lap Kok Island, where Dragon Airways has its headquarters.

This is true. 3 engines is three times the comfort compared to the amount of comfort you'd have in an L1011 with no engines. I do appreciate the little touches like the boat the bottom shifting to match the text.

    Nice work!

the way the light interacts with the aircraft on the poster is really cool!
