In the 50s Northern Territory Airways was considering their options for new aircraft, and was deciding between the Douglas DC-7C and the up and coming Lockheed L-1649 Starliner. Despite operating DC-4s and 6s, after being satisfied with the performance of a batch of L-1049Hs the airline had ordered in previous years, the airline decided to hold off and wait for the Starliner
