Vietstar Airlines A321 + Tet Wet-leases.

Tết Nguyên Đán, is one of the most important celebrations in Vietnamese culture. Meaning "Festival of the First Day of the Year", Tết celebrates the arrival of spring based on the Vietnamese calendar, which usually has the date in January or February in the Gregorian calendar.

Vietstar has been operating increased flights among Vietnamese cities since the early 2000s, to cater for the heavy demands brought by the annual Tết celebration. Hundreds of extra flights are scheduled by domestic airlines during this period to allow Vietnamese to return to their families, often in rural areas, to celebrate the occasion.

In 2023, Vietstar announced that they would be providing around 100,000 extra seats on their high demand domestic routes; of which around 45% would be on the Ho Chi Minh to Hanoi shuttle route. To facilitate these extra flights, aircraft which were placed in short term storage were returned to service and an additional three A321s were wet-leased from Latvian based SharpLinx and it's Maltese subsidiary.

On the 3rd of Jan, YL-LDQ suffered a bird strike while on approach to Dong Hoi as VE939 from Ho Chi Minh. It was fitted with a spare nosecone due to significant damage and returned to service 2 days later.
