2015 - Boeing 737 MAX 8

2015 - Boeing 737 MAX 8

Valiant's long term commitment to the 737 family and Boeing narrow bodies continued with the carrier's purchase of the Boeing 737 MAX as soon as it was announced. Valiant placed its largest ever order to completely eliminate remaining A319s, A320s, and 737-400s in its fleet and begin to phase out older 737NGs. These plans were seriously delayed after just a few of the type were delivered to Valiant when the MAX was grounded. Despite this failure of Boeing's engineering, Valiant did not cancel any of its orders for the type. In fact, almost as soon as the MAX fleet returned to the sky, Valiant expanded its order to include enough aircraft to totally replace the -700s, -800s, and -900ERs in the fleet. This means, Valiant now has outstanding orders for the Max 7, Max 8, and Max 10. N122VL, pictured above, was only the third 737 MAX delivered to Valiant. It spent much of the late 2010s marooned on a concrete pad in Jacksonville where the airline had planned to revive focus city style operations before the pandemic had put plans on ice. Now, Valiant has been deploying this airframe on some of its higher density routes out of San Diego to the likes of LAX, IAD, and EWR.
