GoThai Airlines (Go Thai Airline Company LTD) is a low-cost airline founded by private investors and DiOi Airlines of Vietnam. The company focuses on domestic travel in Thailand as well as the transportation of tourists (mainly from China and Korea) to Thailand. Starting operations in 2009, they flew a fleet of 13 737-300 aircraft before taking delivery of brand new 737 MAX 8s in 2018. Following the ban on the MAX’s GoThai took up several used 737NG airframes to supplement their fleet as the 737-300s were ready for retirement.
In July of 2021, four of GoThai’s MAXs were returned to service after the ban on MAX’s was lifted in Thailand, marking the start of the company’s comeback. After being hit hard by the COVID pandemic they were eager to reinstate international service and bring profits up. The MAXs were deployed initially on domestic routes until more Asian countries opened up their borders. As of December 2022, GoThai operates a fleet of 8 737 MAX 8 aircraft and 9 737-800 aircraft. It is expected that by the end of 2024 at the latest GoThai will operate only the MAX 8 and their 2 A330neos (ex. Thai Air Asia X) + future 8 more on order.
Pictured above is HS-DBX, a four year old MAX 8 delivered in 2018. Pictured below is HS-DBJ, a year old 737 MAX 8 which entered the fleet in 2021 after long term storage. Pictured at the bottom is HS-DBO which was initially planned to be delivered to DiOi Airlines but ended up entering service with GoThai in June 2022. This is their second most recent MAX addition.
HS-DBJ carries a special livery advertising the cell-service provider, AIS.
HS-DBO is yet to receive the full GoThai livery.
