Australian Airways Regional Fokker 70

This is the Fokker 70. Australian Airways Regional fly these little planes into small mining/oil towns in the centre of Australia, and have done so since the early nineties. Along with the Fokker 100, these planes will be replaced with A220s in the coming years, however, they plan on retiring the last Fokker in 2026/2027 due to their practicality. Passengers rarely complain about them, and they are still usable anyway.

In 2019, alongside a large Airbus order, Australian Airways Regional made an order of 30 A220-300 to replace the Fokker 70/100s and Embraer E-Jets. The E-Jets will be sold off to other airlines retired by 2024, which may seem odd as the Fokkers won't be retired for another 2-3 years, however the thing to understand is that the Fokkers and E-Jets don't fly the same routes. The Fokkers fly into small mining/oil towns, whereas the E-Jets fly lower demand routes usually between smaller cities. The Fokkers are more useful for more situations than the E-Jets in Australian Airways Regional eyes, so therefore they're gonna stay for longer. Australian Airways Regional want's to squeeze as much as what remains possible with the little Fokkers, and so that's exactly what they're gonna do.

Fokker has had a long history with Australian Airways. Australian Airways + Regional have flown every type of 'modern' Fokker plane, such as the F27, F28, and F50. The Fokker 50s in fact were retired in 2013 after 20+ years in service, and were replaced with ATR 72s and Q400s.

If you wish to fly on a Fokker 70/100, then your best bet is to fly to a mining/oil town from Perth.
