Damavand Airlines (2015-2021) Boeing 737-400

This airframe was delivered in 1991 to Skywing Airlines in Japan. Flying domestic and short flights around East Asia until it was withdrawn from service in 2014, being one of the last to be replaced by 737-800s due to its relatively young age. After being withdrawn from service the plane was ferried to Kuala Lumpur’s Sepang Airport via Da Nang and stored on the ground until early 2015.

On February 16th 2015 the 737-400 was flown from Kuala Lumpur to Ostrava Mosnov via Sharjah. In Ostrava the plane was retrofitted with a new cabin of 144 economy seats and stripped of the Skywing branding. It was re-registered from JA899S to UR-CPJ and handed over to the Ukrainian Airline, Talan Air Company. Sometime in May of 2015 the plane was flown from Ostrava to Kiev’s Zhuliany Airport where it sat on the apron, inactive.

After 4 months of sitting in Kiev, the jet conducted several test flights on October 13th around the Kiev area. On October 15th the plane was flown from Kiev Zhuliany to Tehran Mehrabad Airport and parked at the Damavand Airlines hangar. A week after arrival in Tehran it began flights for Damavand Airlines, flying high-demand domestic sectors out of Mehrabad still retaining its Ukrainian registration.

On January 12th, 2016 the aircraft was once again hauled into the Damavand Airlines hangar for scheduled maintenance. Three weeks later the plane emerged from the hangar with Damavand livery and a new registration of EP-CPJ. It has been flying for Damavand ever since and in July 2022 received their newly updated livery.
