As the second decade of the 21st century came to a close, Colombiana was looking towards the future and considering various options for modernizing its fleet. The major goals of the company management were to improve efficiency, maintain fleet commonality, and ensure passenger comfort and safety. Eventually, these goals pointed to the Airbus A330neo as the best option for long-haul operations while the A320neo family would serve short and medium-haul routes.

Colombiana received its first A330neo in 2019 and it immediately entered service on the BOG-MAD route. Unfortunately, the global downturn in the airline market during 2020-2021 forced the airline to place the aircraft in storage and pause further deliveries. As travel began to make a comeback in late 2021 and 2022, the aircraft was brought out of storage and further deliveries of the A330neo recommenced. Currently, the airline plans to operate at least ten examples of the type by 2024 and possibly more in the future as international travel demand continues to increase. Despite the challenges of the last several years, Colombiana is confident and prepared for a bright future as one of the premier air carriers of Latin America.
