2020s | Colombiana | Embraer E195-E2

Colombiana was one of the first major carriers to embrace the E-Jets E2 series as the future of its short haul fleet. The type beat out similar aircraft such as the A319neo and A220 primarily due to its efficiency, fairly low cost, and ease of maintenance. Additionally, the type provides more flexibility for the airline by fitting nicely between the larger A320neo and the smaller ATR turboprops used for connecting regional airports.

In 2018, Colombiana took delivery of its first E190-E2 followed by its first E195-E2 a year later. Fortunately, the E2 series jets arrived at the right time for the subsequent downturn in the air transport market and enabled the carrier to adapt as demand changed. As Colombiana expands over the next few years to achieve its goal of becoming the major airline in South America, the E2 aircraft will continue serving regional and short haul flights but will also venture further afield on thinner medium-range routes which offer potential for greater air connectivity across the continent.

The E2 was the first aircraft type in Colombiana's fleet to unveil the refreshed livery in early 2020 as the company prepared to launch into a new and hopefully bright future. While things did not quite turn out as planned at that time, the airline still intends to grow and achieve its goals through steady commitment to customer service, great inflight products, and a modern fleet.
