Air New Zealand Boeing 707-120B

As we all know, Air New Zealand (TEAL) ordered and operated the DC-8. But did you know that they were also looking at the 707 and VC-10 before ultimately deciding on the DC-8? Here's what the Air New Zealand/TEAL livery would've looked like on the 707.

I imagine they would've operated the same number of 707s as they did DC-8s. They would've flown to about the same places too.

But if they'd ordered the 707, maybe they wouldn't have gotten the DC-10s either. And by extension then maybe TE901 might not have happened, potentially? Then again, that wasn't the fault of the DC-10 itself, so maybe it could've happened but with a 747-100 or -200. Perhaps it could've lead to Air New Zealand getting the 737ng/MAX? Who really knows for sure. But the point I'm trying to make is that if they hadn't ordered the DC-8, then I think it could have changed quite a few things for Air New Zealand, mostly and primarily when it comes to fleet.

Alas, TEAL/Air New Zealand ordered the DC-8 due to its' better performance in their eyes, and so we are left with the universe we are in today. But it's fun to fantasize and hypothesize what could have been.
