Boeing 727 200

Boeing 727 200

As the airline progressed through the final third of the 20th century, Islanda plateaued. Travel through Iceland as a connector was still popular, but thanks to the 747, nonstop trans-Atlantic travel was becoming far more popular. As a result, the airline focused on long and skinny routes, cutting back frequencies to major US Cities in order to reallocate resources to underserved markets. Popular among these was services to PIT, EWR, CVG, and CLE that are mainstays today.
