Islanda continued to grow Iceland's status as a major connector between the ever growing trans-Atlantic market well into the start of the jet age. The island proved a very convenient stop for airliners of all sizes before ETOPS was established, and helped connect North America's Pacific coast to Europe much more efficiently. The 707 and CV990 helped the airline become sexy and fast, the jets reducing flight time significantly enough that a connection through KEF was faster than a direct flight on other airlines.
