Air New Zealand Boeing 747-400

I've already covered this particular 747-400 (ZK-NBV) briefly on the Bring Our Birds Home poster, so I won't go into detail about this particular airframe. But, what I will do is cover the 747-400s history with Air New Zealand.

The first 747-400 arrived with Air New Zealand back in December of 1989, registered ZK-NBS. In total, Air New Zealand operated 8 747-400s, with all but 2 being delivered to Air New Zealand brand new from the factory. The 2 that weren't were registered ZK-SUI and ZK-SUH and were bought off of Brazilian carrier VARIG.

Of course, as you may have expected, the -400 replaced the -200s Air New Zealand operated until the early 2000s. They flew the flagship route to London, via Los Angeles as NZ0001/2 and also via Hong Kong as NZ0031/32. They also flew across the ditch to cities like Sydney and Melbourne.

The retirement of the last 747-400 took place about 12 September 2014*. They were replaced by the 777-300ER.

The 747 was a beloved aircraft in the Air New Zealand fleet, and it was a shame to see them go. Also, fun fact, the 747 was apparently nicknamed "Daddy's Yacht" by quite a few Kiwi pilots*, so, uh, yeah.

For airframe details go check out the Bring Our Birds Home post I did.

Slang of the day: Far out | Meaning: another way of saying something along the lines of "Holy s***", "What the f***", but in a family friendly way.
Eg.:
A ) Aw bro, look at that car accident
B ) Aw far out mate, that looks bad, aye?

Kiwi classic of the day: How Bizarre | Artist: OMC
