- Album Himmelbahn
The earliest years of the jet age were a time when Himmelbahn's fleet were dominated by Douglas aircraft. DC-8-10s were joined by later DC-8 variants with larger range and capacity. Himmelbahn debuted the DC-9 in the mid 60s. By 1969, the existing Himmelbahn livery was showing its age and so a more modern, simplified livery entered the scene and by the turn of the decade, the Neudüsenflugzeugvogel (New Jet Bird) swept the fleet. The livery would go on to define the airline for the entirety of the 70s and many important members of the Himmelbahn fleet first took to the sky in this livery. It was the last paint scheme Himmelbahn used before grey joined the suite of corporate colours.
