In the 1990s, as the new millenium was approaching, Wright introduced the MD-90 as a replacement for some older MD-80s. Due to the greater efficiency of the V2500 engines, the airline planned to eventually replace the entire MD-80 fleet with the new type. However, the 1997 merger of Boeing and McDonnell Douglas brought an end to the MD-90 program and Wright was left with a mixed fleet of MD-90s, MD-80s, and a few remaining DC-9s.
The MD-90s were primarily used on Wright's major routes to East Coast destinations such as New York, Washington D.C., Boston, and Miami until their retirement in the late 2010s.
Ship 930 (N930WR) was delivered to Wright in 1997 and was equipped with 16 First and 120 Coach seats.
