Magavia | 2022-present | Airbus A220-300

In 2019, Magavia was reported to be close to a decision on the future of its fleet. Most observers suspected that the 737 MAX was the leading contender due to the fact that Magavia already used the 737 NG as the backbone of its fleet. However, the downturn in the airline industry during 2020-2021 forced Magavia to pause its fleet renewal plans and focus on maintaining operations while reducing costs. The rapid changes in the European air travel market and the continuing competition from low-cost carriers led Magavia's management to create a future path for the carrier which emphasizes flexibility, efficiency, and a simplified fleet of smaller aircraft. Additionally, the problems with the 737 MAX changed the airline's view of the type and led to an announcement in early 2021 that Magavia had selected the Airbus A220 as the new backbone of its European fleet.

The 737 NGs and Sukhoi Superjets will be steadily phased out from 2022-2026 as the A220-300s and -100s are introduced. Despite the change in Magavia's perception of Boeing (due to the 737 MAX issues), the airline still plans to continue operating its small fleet of 787-8 widebodies for its routes to North America, the Far East, and India. Additionally, as part of the airline's new direction, a refreshed livery was introduced in January 2022 on one of the A220s. It will be applied to the entire fleet by 2026.

Magavia - Journey well.
